Bainbridge Whiskey Forty Saloon Bottled-in-Bond Small Batch is made from a mashbill of 60% heirloom corn, 25% heirloom rye and 15% heirloom wheat, all USDA organic. The grains are fermented with vintage-strain yeast, double-distilled and aged more than six years in 53-gallon No. 3 charred American oak barrels. Barreled at 110-115 proof and bottled at 100 proof per Bottled-in-Bond regulations, it retails for about $89.95.

  • Nose:

    Interesting nose. It’s dusty and grain-forward, leading with fresh grains, a splash of cream, brown sugar, banana bread and a hint of blueberry.

  • Taste:

    Moderate mouthfeel. That dusty-grain profile continues, joined by walnut husk, cacao and maple syrup.

  • Finish:

    Finish leans into spice with cinnamon and nutmeg, plus walnut, corn grain and a touch of ethanol.

  • Overall:

    Distinctive, tasty bourbon. Solid, enjoyable stuff.
