Bottled at 110 proof, Backbone Bourbon The Forge is a high-proof blend distilled in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, with 339 cases produced for Batch No. 3. It contains at least 51% straight bourbon aged 5 to 7 years, along with older straight rye and light whiskey. Mashbills include 75% corn, 21% rye and 4% malted barley for the bourbon; 95% rye and 5% malted barley for the rye; and 99% corn and 1% malted barley for the light whiskey.
Backbone Bourbon has delivered quite the pleasant surprise. The whiskey is impeccably crafted, producing a flavor that is different from the standard bourbon profile I am used to. The mix of the corn whiskey adds a touch of butter and sugar cane notes, without detracting from the bourbon core, making the spirit more approachable, much like a wheated bourbon.
