Incline Rye from Axe and the Oak is made from a blend of Colorado-distilled and Indiana-sourced rye whiskey using a mashbill of malted rye, corn and malted barley in undisclosed proportions. Aged less than two years, it is cut with Rocky Mountain water and bottled at 49% ABV.
The palate is soft and lightly sweet. It’s not nearly as dynamic as the nose suggests, however, with a slowly simmering rye spice and sweet caramel note that becomes a touch watery into the finish. A perfectly good cocktail rye, but this one jumps the shark on approachability, even with the slightly elevated proof.
