Machrie Moor Single Malt is a peated whisky named after a peat bog on the Isle of Arran known for its Bronze Age stone circles. It was produced at Lochranza Distillery as part of Arran’s original peated whisky line before all peated production moved to Lagg Distillery in 2019. Bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration or added coloring, it is sold in 70cl bottles with a suggested retail price of £41.66.
A bonfire smokiness develops steadily, with spice, nuts, and plain chocolate through to the relatively long finish, which features a persistent citric note.
If eight different batches of Machrie Moor over the past six years are any indication, then they are definitely making an effort to improve their peated offerings.
