The inaugural release in Ardbeg's Anthology Collection, this is The Harpy's Tale, a 13-year-old scotch aged in a mix of bourbon and Sauternes wine casks. Bottled at 92 proof, The Harpy's Tale is priced at $164.99. Ardbeg Director of Distilling and Whiskey Creation Dr. Bill Lumsden describes this expression as "a battle between sweet and smoke." Indeed, sweet Sauternes casks are unusual for Ardbeg, which is known for its intensely peaty single malts.

  • Mildly sweet but not overblown, there’s a suggestion of chocolate and even a touch of coffee bean on the finish, making for a complex but completely effusive and enjoyable experience. Definitely a whisky I’d love to explore in more depth.

  • What starts as a modest amount of peat smoke turns to billowing embers with repeated sips: think vanilla-cream pie sitting in a smokehouse.
