  • It feels balanced for being robust and is a great representation of Ardbeg.

  • All told, the dram has plenty to grab on to, making for a welcome relief of a return to form for this expression from Ardbeg.

  • Fun and enjoyable, lovely and layered, but for 19 years in cask, this has a meekness about it.

  • Nose:

Rich on the nose, cedar first and packed full of apricot, pear and lemon. Sweet honey and cream, light pepper, lots going on.

  • Taste:

Thin to medium mouthfeel with plenty of honey, ash, pepper, slate, salinity and cedar. Some vanilla bean, lemon curd, pear and sweet caramel.

  • Finish:

Long, ashy and peat-driven finish, packed with pear and lemon, vanilla sweetness, ash, cedar and a touch of pepper.

  • Overall:

Fun and enjoyable, lovely and layered, but for 19 years in cask, this has a meekness about it. Could a higher ABV help? It's a mystery I only wish I knew the answer to.
