Heavy, acrid diesel character. Slate, rubber, black pepper, apple, butter, pear and some burning ashy wood.
Moderate palate with sweet honey, lemon butter, butterscotch, toffee, apple butter, burning wood and minerality.
Long finish. Pleasant balance of sweetness and acidity, with gobs of ashy smoke.
Honestly, there’s a lot of rebuke for a whisky this old being bottled at 40% ABV, but it works just fine. This release shows that well-aged Ardbeg can still have a pleasant complexity to it.
