  • Bold and ester-laden on the nose, this is an intense exploration of overripe fruits, sharp citrus peel, holiday-spiced vanilla syrup, and lots of unctuous molasses.

  • Appleton Estate's Heart collection is known for it's heavy hitters and the 1998 is certainly that. It is a very complex rum that shows its maturity in a good way. A little water helps to open up the more nuanced notes hidden by the burn of its 63% ABV. Though it is heavy, the 1998 vintage is brighter than one would expect from 25 years of aging in the tropics. Overall, it is a great rum that really shows the heart of what Appleton Estate rum is known for.

  • Nose:

There is a light herbal character to the nose combined with notes of honey, dried mango and banana. As it breathes, aromas of brown sugar and spice become more present alongside ripe tropical fruit.

  • Taste:

Sits heavy on the palate but has tons of bright notes of citrus peel to cut through the richness. Notes of candied ginger, vanilla and dried fruits mingle with woody spice and a hint of dark chocolate. The oak is definitely pronounced but doesn't cover up the complex flavors from the pot still.

  • Finish:

The finish is long with a cozy warmness. It leaves with an intense burst of oakyness with a distinct note of dried mango lingering on the palate.
