Moderate nose, good bit of brown sugar, toffee, some light oak influence despite the age, a hint of anise, orange peel, cherry and a good bit of barrel char. Enticing, interesting.
Rich on the palate, good character up front: heavy oak, toffee, some apple, cinnamon, tobacco. Heavy bitterness sets in, becomes very dry after some time on the palate.
Long finish, rich and oaky, sweet with tons of caramel and cocoa and espresso but that acrid bitterness sets in again. It’s almost impossible to shake on the finish and hangs on for a good while.
I like this release, but specific parts of it. That acrid bitterness on the palate and finish doesn’t really work well for my pallet, and its hold and grip on the palate makes it something I probably wouldn’t pour often.
