The Appleton Estate !7 Year Old Legend rum was made in honor of J. Wray & Nephew's 17 year rum that was used in the original Mai Tai recipe from 1944. The blend was made to capture the essence of that rum in its moment of history. The blend consists of 4 pot still rums that were aged in 10 casks at Appleton Estate in Jamaica.
I’m not sure I’d make a $500 investment on a bottle just for cocktailing… but then again, I’m not sure what else I’d want to do with this little delight.
The palate is well balanced between sweetness, earthiness, and spice, characterized by baked tropical fruits, baked peaches, fresh tart cherry, raisins, allspice, and butterscotch.
