Angostura 1919 is named after a particular event that led to discovery of rum aged in 1919. In 1932, following a catastrophic fire, hundreds of charred casks filled with rum were found at Trinidad’s Government Rum Bond. The casks which were filled in 1919 had been ageing for 13 years. This recipe from the 1800's is what makes up the Angostura 1919 which is a light golden rum aged in charred, used bourbon oak casks and distilled in Angostura’s multi-column continuous still. The blend is comprised of rums aged between 5 and 14 years.
1919 offers a rich complex nose of vanilla, toasted oak, sweet fruitcake, stone fruits, and delicate baking spices. With a single sip baked-peach-pie, cinnamon, vanilla, toasted oak and allspice reveal themselves to be driving flavors with subtle undertones of fennel, pineapple-upside-down-cake, and pecans.
