The fruit-sweetness is there and makes it approachable and it’s not overbearing, but man does it finish hard and made me question going back for sips with the taste it left in my mouth.
But in contrast, here the wine barrel finish offers a richer, deeper body that sherried whiskys usually don’t have, and one that appears to go smashingly well with Bourbon.
The taste is vanilla, red apples, maple syrup, cocoa, and rye bread. The finish is dried apples and bananas, vanilla, sweet and long with a slight red wine tartness.
If you haven't explored barrel finished bourbons yet, Angel’s Envy Port Finished Bourbon is a good start. It’s not so influenced that you’ll be turned off if you discover you're more of a traditionalist, and if you find that you like it, you’ll have a suitable introduction to a range of barrel finished products to further explore.
This is interesting, but not incredible. The jammy qualities of the port wine finish are fun and interesting, but the mouth feel and finish are thin and too quick to be on their way.

House Review
Nose:
Sweet on the nose, jammy and fruity. Honey, slivered almond, strawberry jam and some pepper linker.
Taste:
Thin on the palate, but jammy and sweet. This shows far more restraint than the Angels Envy Rye - though this also clearly lacks dosing. Toffee, hint of nutmeg, strawberry jam and faint cinnamon.
Finish:
Short to medium finish. Some honey, more fruits, butter cream. Light oak.
Overall:
This is interesting, but not incredible. The jammy qualities of the port wine finish are fun and interesting, but the mouth feel and finish are thin and too quick to be on their way.
