Daylight Wine & Spirits, based in California, combines winemaking and distillation operations by finishing whiskeys in its own wine barrels. Ammunition Straight Rye, made from 100% Kentucky-distilled liquid, matures in new charred American oak barrels and then finishes for three months in Ammunition Sonoma Pinot Noir casks.
It’s clearly young whiskey but the wine barrel does a good job at masking that to some degree — though it often comes across as a bit doctored instead of complementary.
