American Woman Bourbon (92 proof) features a 99% corn and 1% barley mash bill. Aged in 100-year-old forest oak barrels with four distinct char levels, it retails for around $74.99.
Overall, it is what it is—a young whiskey being brought to market quickly—but the interplay of the fragrant vanilla notes on the nose and the astringency on the finish is interesting. Whether or not it is the intended consequence of the competing char levels is beyond me. But this whiskey has some potential.
Honestly, this is one I will add to my “Whiskey to feed friends who think they don’t like whiskey” list. While I hold on and keep sipping, it’s so close but I feel myself getting slightly shorted and yearning for a little extra. So I have to admit my heart is more with their Cask Strength version.
