Absente is the first legal absinthe in the U.S. market since 1912. Absente is crafted in the south of France using anise, star anise, balm, peppermint and wormwood.
Half a sugar cube is about right, which lets the pure anise notes and a gentle dried herb character come through. That said, it’s still a pretty basic experience that absinthe devotees won’t find at all interesting, but — on the plus side — it’s at least a wholly inoffensive one.
