15 STARS is a brand-new non-distilling producer founded in April 2022. It's named for Kentucky, the 15th state, and the Star Spangled Banner, which displayed 15 stars. A blend of 10- and 13-year-old straight bourbon whiskeys sourced from Kentucky and Indiana, 15 STARS Sherry Cask Finish is finished in casks seasoned by sherry wine and was bottled at Bardstown Bourbon Co., where 15 STARS contract distills and bottles. This whiskey has earned an impressive résumé of awards this year, including Best Bourbon of 2023, Best Finished Bourbon of 2023 and a Double Gold medal at the 2023 New York World Wine and Spirits Competition. Let's see if it lives up to the hype!

  • A well-balanced blended bourbon, aged 10 years and at 115 proof, will set you back $179, but HEY! In this bourbon climate, $179 for a secondary finished bourbon is becoming the norm.

  • Enjoyable and fun, this is a great example of a whiskey that’s punchy and fun, not mild and over-sherried.

  • Nose:

Big honey, toffee, red berries and cranberry. Bold, structured, savory and berry-filled.

  • Taste:

Pepper and big baking spice notes. Honey, apples, cherries, cranberry and a touch of candied ginger. Lots going on! Spicy, fruity and fun.

  • Finish:

Short finish that's heavy on oak, toffee, ginger and cranberry with a zip of pepper.

  • Overall:

Enjoyable and fun, this is a great example of a whiskey that’s punchy and fun, not mild and over-sherried.
