Tapas Magazine reported on Monday that the Cuban rum brand, Ron Matusalem, unveiled what the brand called the “world’s first” rosé rum, Ron Matusalem Insolito. Through a distinctive process, this pink rum goes through a complex aging process that renders it visually identical to the refreshing rosés of Provence.
The brand explained that the name “Insolito” translates to “Unusual,” and this expression was the brainchild of Ron Matusalem’s Master Blender, Cynthia Vargas.
Ron Matusalem explained the blended rum is sourced from the “best-aged rums” within Matusalem’s stocks. It was subsequently carbon-filtered, subjected to what Tapas refers to as a “treatment that renders it transparent” and aged for an additional three years in a Solera system of Spanish Tempranillo wine casks. The rum was then married to Matusalem Gran Reserva 15, which the brand claims gives it its distinctive pink color.
The packaging evokes a wine bottle, with the Matusalem name screen printed in gold across the bottle.
Matusalem’s latest release is a limited one, and it hosts a suggested retail price of €40 ($43).
Ron Matusalem made a bit of a splash at the Mexico Marathon in September 2022, when a man who appeared to be intoxicated attempted to spike runners’ drinks at a hydration station with a bottle of Matusalem Platino Rum. Fortunately, he was thwarted by authorities. The hydration station was at mile marker 12.
