The Kraken Rum announced a “darkly delicious” lipstick collaboration with Black Moon Cosmetics as part of its National Rum Month celebrations. The brands joined forces to release The Emperor Kraken Duo, which has a suggested retail price of $37.99 and features a bottle of Kraken Gold Spiced Rum and a liquid-to-mat lipstick in a burnished olive-gold shade.

“From the night sky to the darkest depths of the sea, Black Moon and Kraken Rum align for this darkly delicious collaboration,” Black Moon Cosmetics CEO and Creative Director Tina Munster said in a news release. “At Black Moon, we’re all about the mysteriously magical moon and what better way to celebrate its mystery than collaborating with the mystery of the sea? This magical collaboration is sure to cast its spell on you but, tread carefully, you don’t want to wake what lurks beneath.”

Kraken Gold Spiced Rum launched in March 2023, and the brown spirit sharply deviated from Kraken’s typical licorice hue. The rum possesses molasses and spiced notes, with wafts of banana bread at first whiff.

A visual campaign directed by Rich Lee kicked off the launch. Lee is known for his work on the first “Pirates of the Caribbean” film. The rum hosts an ABV of 35% and a suggested retail price of $21.99.

Though this collaboration might seem a little unorthodox for The Kraken, it wouldn’t be the first time an alcohol brand has dabbled in the beauty space.

In February, Fireball Cinnamon Whisky unveiled a fiery red lipstick as a red hot homage to Taylor Swift and her relationship with everyone’s favorite tight end, Travis Kelce. The bright red cinnamon-flavored lippie costs $13.87, which was a deliberate choice as 13 is Swift’s favorite number, and Kelce wears 87.

Whether or not these two examples of spirits brands entering the beauty space are part of the beginning of a larger trend as demographics shift in alcohol conception remains a mystery, yet they are undeniably fun.

For those interested in picking up Black Moon’s Emperor Kraken Black Metal liquid lipstick, you can visit the brand’s website and purchase a tube for $18.00.
