Negronis, alongside suddenly trendy variations like the Negroni Sbagliato, experienced a surge in popularity throughout 2023. Keeping the momentum rolling, an up-and-coming canned cocktail brand is expanding its lineup with two new twists.

Togronis has unveiled a Mezcal Negroni and Boulevardier, made with artisanal mezcal sourced from Santiago Matalán and midwestern bourbon whiskey respectively.

Togronis — a simple amalgamation of “Negroni” and “To Go” — has up until this point specialized exclusively in a flagship cocktail made with London dry gin, Italian sweet vermouth and Scrappy’s Red Bitters. The brand was launched by Buffalo, New York natives Paul Scappechio and Vincent Jacobbi in early 2023.

“Our strategy is to bring innovation to RTD cocktails. We believe in specialization and premiumization” says co-founder Vincent Jacobbi.

Of the two new offerings, mezcal negronis have become a particularly popular choice over the past few years. “Established” spirits typically come with established cocktails; tequila has the margarita, whiskey has the old fashioned, and so on and so on. Mezcal has, until recently, lacked a defining drink to get new consumers interested. As agave spirits reach new heights of popularity, many discerning bartenders are turning to the mezcal negroni.
