Meghan Markle May Have a Cocktail Line on the Way — Here’s What We Know

Trademark filings for Meghan Markle’s relaunched lifestyle brand suggest that the Duchess of Sussex may have a pre-mixed cocktail brand planned just around the corner.

On Tuesday, Markle announced that her multi-hyphenate cookware, clothing and gardenware brand, American Riviera Orchard, has been renamed “As Ever.” The rebrand comes weeks ahead of the premiere of her Netflix show, “With Love, Meghan,” which is slated to hit the streaming platform on March 4. Markle has hinted that the reimagined brand will sell the same items as its previous iteration, albeit with “many more products” on the way.

Unearthed trademark filings registered last September have given keen-eyed fans a glimpse at what those “many more products” may be.

Tucked between trademark applications for fresh edible flowers and match holders, As Ever filed requests for alcoholic beverages except beers, alcoholic cocktail mixes, non-alcoholic cocktail bases and non-alcoholic cocktail mixers.

It isn’t the first time Markle has fueled speculation in the booze industry. Last June, an anonymous source told The Daily Mail that the former “Suits” actress was planning to launch a rosé wine under what was then known as American Riviera Orchard. Though the headline was picked up by a number of outlets, news of the launch fizzled into nonexistence within a matter of weeks. It’s possible that the wine is still in the works, especially given that Markle once confessed rosé was her drink of choice. Her blog, The Tig, is even named after a popular Italian red wine brand called Tignanello.

As vinos hold their breath for what’s to come, Markle is laying the groundwork for what could prove a far more lucrative venture. Celebrity-backed cocktails have taken the market by storm over the past few years, handily replacing celebrity tequila and whiskey as the new “it product” for A-listers with a taste for liquor.

There are a few paths that Markle could take. Given the mention of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic mixers, the Duchess may take inspiration from Blake Lively’s Betty Buzz, a sparkling tonic brand that recently forayed into the cocktail market with a liquor-spiked sister brand, Betty Booze. Another possibility would be bottled, pre-batched cocktails, much like what Jennifer Lopez is currently doing with The House of Delola.

Suffice it to say that shelves are stuffed with competition. Over the past few years, we’ve seen pre-mixed cocktail launches from the varied likes of Kylie Jenner, Travis Kelce, Canelo Álvarez, Kate Upton and Neil Patrick Harris, just to name a few. The category is projected to reach a global market value of over $30 billion by the end of the decade, up from $24.7 billion in 2024.

However, Markle isn’t placing all her eggs in one basket. The enormous trademark filing submitted last September makes mention of gardening trowels, jewelry, furniture, yoga gear, chocolate truffles and wallpaper among literally hundreds of other possible products. In all likelihood, we’re probably about to see a lot of As Ever goods touch down with consumers over the next few years.
