How to Make the Gin Cocktail Inspired by ‘Saltburn’ Bathtub Scene

“Saltburn,” a black comedy psychological thriller directed by Emerald Fennell, premiered at the 50th Telluride Film Festival on Aug. 31, 2023. The film, set in Oxford and Northamptonshire, England, follows Oxford student Oliver Quick’s (played by Barry Keoghan) fixation on aristocratic classmate Felix Catton (played by Jacob Elordi), leading to a disturbing series of events at Felix’s eccentric family estate, Saltburn. Released in the U.S. on Nov. 17, the film garnered positive reviews and earned Golden Globe nominations.

Notably, “Saltburn” has recently dominated social media as viewers take to the internet to discuss the film’s complex themes and provocative scenes. One scene, in particular, is the notorious moment when Oliver desperately drinks Felix’s bathtub water. If you haven’t seen the movie yet and aren’t sure how this could captivate onlookers like it has, well, you’ll just have to witness it for yourself.

Whether you wanted it or not, the scene has also gone on to inspire a gin drink, concocted by cocktail mixer brand Mr. Consistent.

“We aren’t OK, I know ? I don’t think Instagram could handle this cocktail recipe, so Tikky gets it ?,” the brand wrote in the video’s caption on TikTok.

Included in the recipe are Mr. Consistent’s Lychee Martini Cocktail Mix, some coconut milk and Margot Robbie’s (who also helped produce “Saltburn”) Papa Salt Gin. Released in May 2023, the sea-inspired gin boasts tasting notes of hibiscus, citrus peel, nutty wattleseed, pink peppercorn, minerality and briny oyster shell. With the use of creamy coconut milk and a subtly salty gin, it’s hard to not see exactly what Mr. Consistent is referencing in this cheeky drink.

Rim a coupe glass with some coconut milk and, according to Mr. Consistent, “let it drip.” Next, combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously for about 15–20 seconds. Strain your cocktail into the glass, and it’s ready to serve.

While this drink is designed to be enjoyed ice cold, one TikTok user suggested it “should be served warm.”

Another commented, “Someone get this to Barry STAT,” while a third simply wrote, “Hey, this is foul… thanks for sharing.”
