In commemoration of its 50th anniversary, Preston Caribbean Carnival has teamed up with local spirits producer Wild Fox Distillery to unveil a limited-release Gold Edition Gin. As reported by Soca News, the bespoke spirit infuses Caribbean lime and sorrel, a flavor combination said to be unique to the English city of Preston.
The official debut of the gin will take place on Thursday at Glovers Bar, with carnival celebrations slated for May 25 and 26. Gold Edition boasts a tangy and subtly floral flavor profile, similar to cranberry or pomegranate, and is available in 20cl and 70cl sizes, priced at £25 and £45, respectively.
For those eager to partake in the jubilant occasion, the Preston Carnival website offers further insights into the event’s rich history, along with glimpses of five decades of vibrant costumes. This commemorative gin not only celebrates the enduring legacy of the city’s West Indian community but also serves as a tangible keepsake for attendees.
Established in 1974 by Preston residents with Caribbean roots from islands like Dominica and St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the Preston Caribbean Carnival aims to foster appreciation and understanding of Caribbean culture among diverse communities in Preston, Lancashire and the U.K. Inspired by the 1972 Preston Guild Community procession, this annual event draws in tens of thousands of visitors annually, solidifying its status as one of the city’s largest and longest-running cultural celebrations.
