The Glenturret announced on Thursday its first-ever gin: The Aberturret. Bottled at 45% ABV, the new London dry is distilled using a selection of 14 botanicals and The Glenturret’s signature New Make Spirit.

Established in 1763, The Glenturret is credited as Scottland’s oldest working distillery and produces a wide range of single malt whiskies. Aiming to reflect this rich history, The Aberturret bottles up a blend of both traditional and modern gin elements.

“Working on the creation of The Aberturret Gin together with the Lalique and The Glenturret teams was pure joy,” shared Peter Jauch, a spirits expert who helped develop the recipe, per The Spirits Business.

“It was important to me to reflect on the rich history of The Glenturret – that’s why we developed a classic gin with a modern twist. You can smell juniper on the nose, surrounded by fresh, earthy notes. On the palate, the juniper impresses with warming notes and ends with a slightly sweet kick of freshness.”

The complete botanical mix features juniper, coriander, angelica, cloves, lemon, lime, cinnamon, grapefruit, liquorice root, pine, pink peppercorn and chamomile, with The Glenturret’s New Make Spirit being counted as the 14th ingredient.

Jauch added that The Aberturret is “very smooth” and suggested serving it in classic gin cocktails. The spirit is now available on the brand’s website, priced at about $57 per 70-cl bottle.

Drawing inspiration from the iconic whisky bottle of the distillery, The Aberturret comes packaged in an emerald green bottle. This design was crafted by Claudio Denz, son of Lalique’s chairman Silvio Denz, along with Marc Larminaux, the artistic and creative director at Lalique.

The launch of Aberturret Gin coincides with the opening of The Glenturret Distillery’s Aberturret Estate House. Once the Dower House of the Murray Clan and the original site of The Glenturret Distillery over 260 years ago, the recently renovated estate house offers six bedrooms for exclusive hire and is close to the two-Michelin-starred The Glenturret Lalique Restaurant. The restoration incorporates bespoke and antique furnishings, and guests can enjoy activities like archery, fishing and golf. Prices for exclusive hire begin at £3,000 (3,777) per night.

In July 2023, The Glenturret unveiled its Core Collection for the year, featuring eight whiskies. Among them was a notable first for the distillery: a 35-year-old expression.
