As Thanksgiving week unfolds, long-time pals Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart are commemorating the 18th anniversary of beloved rom-com “Just Friends,” which initially graced theaters on November 23, 2005. Under the guise of celebrating “Friendsgiving,” the duo has humorously reunited over a bottle of Aviation American Gin.
In the cherished holiday film, Reynolds and Smart portray a duo of companions hailing from New Jersey, navigating the complexities of their relationship over time. Fast forwarding to the present day, viewers are now treated to a glimpse into the current status of their connection through a lively new ad for Reynolds’ spirit brand.
During the video, Smart quickly catches on to the underlying motive behind their reunion after questioning why her character would return home from a bar that was out of Aviation Gin — while holding a large bottle of it.
“So… this is a stupid ad for your gin company,” Smart comments.
Reynolds, in a witty retort, asserts that this endeavor is actually a “self-funded sequel,” grounded in a flexible interpretation of intellectual property laws.
“So… yes, it is an ad for my Aviation American Gin,” Reynolds continues.
The video wraps up with Smart storming off-screen, where she presumably smashes the bottle of celebrity-backed booze she was carrying.
Reynolds’ involvement with Aviation Gin began in 2018 when he acquired a significant stake in the spirits company. Since then, the actor and entrepreneur has not only been a stakeholder but also a prominent ambassador for Aviation Gin, contributing to its rise in popularity through keen marketing and silly ads.
Earlier this month, Reynolds called on Rob Thomas, the lead singer of American rock band Matchbox Twenty, to sing songs about Aviation Gin in Welsh.
