On Sunday, Australian rock band The Superjesus released a bespoke gin named “Sumo” in celebration of the 25th anniversary of its debut album of the same name. Created in partnership with Groglords, a spirits producer for artists in the metal, rock and punk genres, only 250 bottles of Sumo Gin have been made.

Sumo Gin is described as having punchy, fruity flavors with hints of green tea, cumquat, mandarin and lemon peel, while still maintaining the “expected” mouthfeel of a premium spirit, The Superjesus explained.

“Wanna try it?,” the band asked its fans on Instagram. “It’s smooth n silky and makes you wanna mosh to 90’s grunge.”

Sumo, the band’s 1998 debut album, achieved significant success, reaching #2 on the ARIA Albums Chart (the official Australian music chart) and achieving Platinum certification in Australia, according to The Music. Additionally, The Superjesus won the inaugural Best Rock Album award at the 1998 ARIA Awards, further solidifying its place in the Australian rock music scene.

In addition to the gin launch, The Superjesus recently released a new single called “Lights Out” and announced a corresponding tour scheduled to begin in mid-August.

Sumo Gin is now available for purchase through Groglords, priced at $89.00 per 500ml bottle.
