Berry Bros. & Rudd, a U.K.-based wine and spirits purveyor with roots tracing back to 1698, is embarking on an “ambitious expansion” with the imminent launch of a standalone spirits boutique. As reported by The Standard on Wednesday, this marks a monumental development for the company, which has not opened a new retail establishment in over three centuries.
Scheduled to open its doors on April 2 in London, the Spirits Shop aims to cater to the growing appetite for premium liquor, reflecting a robust 42% year-on-year increase in consumer demand, per Berry Bros. Boasting a curated selection of approximately 1,000 products sourced from around the world, the boutique is striving to become a premier destination for booze aficionados and collectors alike.
Creative Director Geordie Willis expressed excitement about the new shop, emphasizing the careful restoration of the boutique’s interior to preserve its historical charm.
“We are delighted to open the doors of our first Spirits Shop as the latest iteration of our centuries-long commitment to curating the finest and rarest selection of spirits,” Willis said, per The Standard. “The growth in premium spirits shows that our customers have a huge appetite for beautiful and rare liquids and the selection has been carefully curated.”
“The space has been carefully restored: the interior will use reclaimed oak barrel staves from old whisky casks alongside a beautiful solid elm tasting table hand-made in Warwickshire. The elm used for the table came from the Brodie Castle Estate in the heart of Speyside, home to some of the world’s most celebrated whisky distilleries.”
Among the highlights of the grand opening is a collaboration with Bowmore, one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries, resulting in the creation of a 1997 single malt whisky with a limited release of only 100 bottles.
Beyond its wide range of whiskies, cognac and rum, Berry Bros. & Rudd produces the highly regarded No.3 London Dry Gin. Classic in style, the 46%-ABV spirit highlights Italian juniper berries, sweet Spanish orange peel, grapefruit peel, angelica root, Moroccan coriander seeds and cardamom pods. Currently, it has an aggregated review score of 92.
