The Missouri Botanical Garden and 4 Hands Brewing Co.’s 1220 Spirits have teamed up to produce a bespoke terroir-driven gin. The new spirit, an aptly named Missouri Botanical Garden Gin, combines classic juniper and an array of handpicked botanicals in homage to the diverse plant life in St. Louis

“Spirits, wine and beer crafted with both native and cultivated plants have provided a botanical dialect to human celebrations for thousands of years,” said Shaw Nature Reserve Director Dr. Quinn Long, according to Feast Magazine. “This partnership offers a special opportunity to experience some of the unique flavors available in the diverse plants of our region.”

According to the spirit producer, Missouri Botanical Garden Gin offers tasting notes of bright citrus, bergamot, elderflower, rose hips, calamus and echinacea.

“The selected botanicals provide complex layers of flavors and a smooth, beautiful finish that works nicely with club soda or tonic,” shared 1220 Spirits Chief Marketing Officer Liz Swyers, Feast Magazine reported.

The design agency behind 1220 Spirits’ branding, Toky, designed the gin’s label with inspiration from the windows of the historic Linnean House. Located inside the Missouri Botanical Garden, the Linnean House is the oldest continuously operating public greenhouse west of the Mississippi River.

“This is a true passion project and a true collaboration for us as a local distillery,” Swyers added, per the report. “Being partners with the Garden has been a dream come true for a lot of us here at 1220 Spirits. The Missouri Botanical Gardens is an institution in St. Louis and their team couldn’t have been more engaged and excited about the opportunity.”

“This gin is one of a kind.”

Bottles of the bespoke gin are available for purchase at the Garden’s market and the 4 Hands Brewing Company tasting room, as well as in stores throughout the area. 20% of the proceeds generated from bottle sales will be directed toward supporting the Missouri Botanical Gardens.
