House of Suntory Spotlights Sakura Blossoms Harvested at the ‘Peak of Their Vibrancy’ in Latest Gin

Roku Gin’s cherry blossom expression arrives just ahead of spring.
On Wednesday, Japanese whiskey producer The House of Suntory released Roku Sakura Bloom, a limited-edition gin aspiring to capture the energy of Japan’s cherry blossom season and the celebrated Hanami festival.
According to Grocery Trader’s report, the new offering is inspired by shun, a Japanese concept representing nature’s peak in flavor and freshness. Crafted as part of Roku Gin’s Festival Collection, the Sakura Bloom Edition is a homage to the Hanami “flower viewing” festivals in Japan.
James Bowker, Global Advocacy Manager at Beam Suntory, emphasized the cultural significance of shun and described the Roku Sakura Bloom as a bright and fresh gin.
“Shun is a concept unique to Japanese culture,” Bowker explained, per Grocery Trader. “It captures something magical, a moment when the natural world is at its most energised. The Roku Sakura Bloom Edition will be an expression of that concept – a bright and fresh-flavoured gin containing botanicals that are harvested at the peak of their vibrancy and taste.”
“The Roku Sakura Bloom Edition provides an immersion into the cultural origins of the product as well as providing a unique taste profile. Giving the brand a compelling point of difference in the premium gin market.”
The brand further characterized Roku Sakura Bloom as a complex gin with a soft and sweet floral taste, achieved through a blend of six botanicals, including the eponymous sakura flowers. These floral notes are said to be complimented by a subtle saltiness from blossom leaves.
Suntory recommends pairing Roku Sakura with tonic water and a pink grapefruit slice garnish, served over ice in a highball glass.
Resting at 43% ABV, Roku Sakura Bloom is now available for £33 ($41.87) online and in-store at Tesco. The gin is slated for a wider March release at Waitrose and Sainsbury’s.
