This Australian Gin Producer Was Just Crowned World’s Best for the 3rd Time

For the third time, Australian spirit brand Four Pillars has been crowned the world’s best gin maker at the International Wine and Spirits Competition (IWSC). With its previous triumphs occurring in 2019 and 2020, Four Pillars now stands as the only gin producer across the globe to win this achievement three times.

The IWSC, the largest and most prestigious spirits contest worldwide, drew an impressive 4,000 entries from distilleries worldwide this year. Within this vast competition, gin stood out as the most prominent category.

Central to Four Pillars’ victory were the Bloody Underhill Vineyard Shiraz Gin 2022 and the Single Barrel S36 Gin, both of which earned a score of 98 out of 100 points.

The co-founder and distiller of Four Pillars, Cameron Mackenzie, accepted the award in London and expressed his astonishment at the recognition, especially considering the hard work and ambition that led to the establishment of Four Pillars a decade ago.

“Back in 2013, we set out with the ambition to make world-class gin, so to win this award three times is simply mind-blowing,” Mackenzie said, according to Time Out.

“I kind of knew we had a chance when two of our gins scored 98 points but kept it on the lowdown until last week when I dusted off the kilt! It’s a massive thrill for our team back at home and for the Australian spirits industry overall, and even sweeter that Four Pillars celebrates 10 years of making gin this December”.

In addition to its success at IWSC, Four Pillars earned acclaim in 2022 when it was awarded the Green Spirit Initiative prize for its dedication to environmentally sustainable production and carbon-neutral practices. This accolade stems from the brand’s strategic expansion and redesign efforts in Healesville, aimed at reducing waste and conserving energy in tandem with other eco-friendly endeavors.

In July, Lion Group, the brewing giant behind Australian beer brands like XXXX, Tooheys and Furphy, acquired Four Pillars for a reported $50 million.
