Elephant Gin Marks 10th Anniversary With Limited Edition Expression Spotlighting ‘Rare African Botanicals’

Celebrating its tenth anniversary, B Corp-certified spirit producer Elephant Gin has unveiled a limited edition expression made using a mix of “rare African botanicals.” This release comes following the opening of Elephant Gin’s new distillery and visitor center in Wittenberg, Germany.
“A limited-edition celebration gin from Elephant Gin, bursting with distinctive citrus and minty-cassis notes from African Buchu and grapefruit with a herbal botanical backbone and subtle notes of fresh ginger,” the brand shared.
The new offering, dubbed African Explorer, incorporates buchu leaves from South Africa, Monodora (African nutmeg) and white ginger from Cameroon, alongside Sumbala seeds from Burkina Faso, Lion’s Tail from the African savannah and Baobab fruit from Malawi.
Elephant Gin has also recently debuted an eco-friendly glass bottle that is 15% lighter, reducing CO2 emissions by 60 tons and utilizing 65% recycled glass, Gin Mag reported. And, as with all Elephant Gin expressions, the bottle features a traditional cork stopper, a handwritten label and colorful traditional glass Maasai beads handmade by Maasai tribal women in Kenya — which are recommended to be repurposed into sunglass strings.
Founded in 2013 by Robin and Tessa Gerlach, Elephant Gin was inspired by the couple’s trips across Kenya, Tanzania and South Africa. The brand has since been committed to contributing 15% of bottle profits to protecting the critically endangered African Forest Elephant in Cameroon through the African Wildlife Foundation.
Resting at 40% ABV, African Explorer Limited Edition Gin can be found here, priced at £45.00 (about $55) per 500ml bottle.
