In early May, Citadelle Gin unveiled its new visitor’s center in Cognac, France. The center offers guests a “behind-the-scenes tour” of the gin brand in a beautiful 18th-century château.
The historic property was home to a distillery in the 19th century and subsequently served as a stable and aging cellar. Master Blender Alexandre Gabriel designed the architecture plans for the estate, and after over 30,000 hours of restoration, the project was completed.
Gardens surround the historic château featuring an Orangerie, which cultivates what the brand refers to as a “star ingredient” in Citadelle Gin. Juniper trees additionally grace the property and yield another critical component of Citadelle Gin.
“We are delighted to welcome guests to our magnificent distillery and showcase what Citadelle Gin is all about,” said the Visitor’s Center Manager Yohann Thuillier in a statement. “We can’t wait to show everyone our impressive cháteau, home of the savoir-vivre à la Française, and yes, we even have gins on tap!”
The brand shares that the distillery is 15 minutes away from downtown Cognac, and is a three-hour train ride from Paris and Bordeaux. The experience will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday Reservations can be made in advance at the brand’s website, and tours will be held in groups for one and a half hours, at the cost of €15 a person. The brand claims the tours will be held in French, English and Spanish.
The artisanal French gin brand released a gherkin-infused gin in November and the gin hosts a suggested retail price of $39.99 a bottle. Citadelle sourced gherkins from what the brand referred to as the final commercial cornichon producer in France, Maison Marc.
