Australian distillery Archie Rose Distilling Co. has recently unveiled a limited-edition addition to its Harvest Series collection: Raw Honey Gin Harvest 2022. The aptly named offering spotlights raw honey sourced from eight on-site bee hives situated at the spirit producer’s distillery in Sydney, Drinks Trade reported.
Dedicated to fostering sustainable practices, the distillery has a strong commitment to partnering with local producers that share its ecological values. Each release in the Harvest Series, including previous editions featuring ingredients like poor man’s orange and native sunrise lime, has showcased a devotion to highlighting regional flavors.
What sets Raw Honey Gin Harvest 2022 apart is the fact that it’s the first in the series to incorporate an ingredient produced directly on the distillery’s premises, according to Drinks Trade. Working in collaboration with The Urban Beehive, which oversees the maintenance of the eight hives and the well-being of nearly 640,000 resident bees, this limited-edition gin aims to capture the essence of Sydney’s biodiversity.
“Raw Honey Gin Harvest 2022 is a celebration of our love affair with honey,” Master Distiller Dave Withers shared, per Drinks Trade. “In 2016, The Urban Beehive introduced us to the diversity of flavour that honey can give you. And we fell in love. I recall being given a range of honey, each with completely different colours and aromatic profiles. This was not the generic stuff from the supermarket shelf; there was an authenticity and complexity to this material.”
Raw Honey Gin Harvest 2022 promises tasting notes of juniper, coriander seed, Roman chamomile, orris root and reclaimed orange peels. Archie Rose added that the gin also evokes the sensation of freshly poured honey, paired with hints of lime, tropical fruit, fennel blossoms, golden wattle, green pine needles, mint and honeysuckle.
Raw Honey Gin Harvest 2022 is available in a limited quantity of 7,900 bottles and can be purchased at the Archie Rose Bar & Cellar Door, the distillery’s official website and select retail stores, all priced at $89 per bottle.
In May, Archie Rose introduced The Writer’s Gin, a boozy collaborative effort between Michael Williams, the editor of The Monthly magazine, design company Evi.O Studio and Booktopia, an online bookstore.
