‘Low Prices Don’t Mean a Compromise on Quality’: This Budget Aldi Gin Was Just Named ‘Best in Country’

Aldi secures an impressive accolade for its own-label budget spirit, Haysmith’s Seville Orange & Persian Lime Gin.

Discount supermarket chain Aldi has emerged triumphant at the World Gin Awards 2024, with its Haysmith’s Seville Orange & Persian Lime Gin clinching the “Best in Country” accolade.

Priced at a modest £15 (about $19), this own-brand offering outshone rivals to secure the “Best in Britain” title in the flavored gin category, as reported by Metro on Tuesday. Notably, it boasts a significant £13 (16.46) savings compared to Tanqueray’s Sevilla Orange Gin, the very spirit that appears to have influenced Aldi’s citrus-infused creation.

The laurels continued for Aldi, as its Greyson’s London Dry Gin, Haysmith’s Rhubarb & Ginger Gin and Toradh Seville Orange Gin garnered three silver medals in classic and flavored gin classifications. Julie Ashfield, Aldi’s Managing Director of Buying, expressed pride in the recognition.

“We are extremely proud that one of our own branded gins has been named ‘best in the country’, as well as landing medals for three other gins in our range,” Ashfield shared in the report. “Now more than ever, we are showing that low prices doesn’t mean a compromise on quality – we’ve got the logo to prove it!”

With the “Best in Country” honor secured, Aldi’s orange gin is set to vie for the coveted “World’s Best” title in February, competing against other medalists and country winners.

In March 2023, Aldi yet again secured an impressive accolade after being given a perfect score of 98 at the 2023 International Wine and Spirits Competition.

Aldi is a global discount supermarket chain that operates in numerous countries, offering a wide range of groceries, household essentials and various other products at competitive prices. The company was founded in Germany in 1946 and has since expanded its presence to become one of the largest and most successful retail chains worldwide. Despite Aldi’s widespread success, the brand does not yet retail alcohol in the U.S., and with Aldi’s orange gin eyeing the World’s Best title, there’s a bit of thirst among Stateside enthusiasts who are missing out on the celebrated spirits lineup.
