6 LGBTQ+-Owned Gin Brands to Support This Pride Month — and All Year Long!

Happy Pride Month! Celebrated in June each year, Pride Month is a time to honor and commemorate the LGBTQ+ community’s history, struggles and achievements. It’s a month of solidarity, visibility and celebration of diversity and self-expression.

To celebrate pride in our own juniper-loving way, we present six great LGBTQ+-owned gin brands to support this month — and all year long!

Future Gin

Women and queer-owned and operated, Future Gin is the creation of Amy Atwood, Mary Bartlett, Freya Estreller and Natasha Case, who aimed to capture the essence of California in a spirit. By distilling Meyer lemon, elderflower, avocado leaves, honeysuckle and grape leaves along with traditional botanicals, Future Gin boasts both classic and modern elements.

Future Gin can be found for $39.00 per 750ml bottle. The spirit rests at 45% ABV and is suggested to be served up in gin classics from dirty martinis to fruity punches and Negronis.

Each year, the brand donates 10% of sales to social justice causes it cares about.

Spirit of Stonewall Gin

Aiming to retell the events of the 1969 Stonewall Riots, Stonewall Spirits was founded in the U.K. in 2019.

Stonewall Spirits’ range includes a classic London dry, Passionfruit & Mango, Pink Rhubarb and Raspberry gin. Each unique expression features base botanicals juniper, coriander, orange, licorice, almonds and sea buckthorn.

“Stonewall Spirits retells the inspiring events of the 1969 Stonewall Riots and how one night became a pivotal moment for the LGBTQ+ community which still resonates today,” the brand explained. “We believe it’s important to reintroduce the story to each new generation. We also ask every customer to tell family and friends why they purchased the bottle and hopefully retell themselves the story of the riots. By doing this we hope to not only keep the riot’s memory alive but also spread acceptance and equality and reduce homophobia through education.”

With every bottle of Stonewall Gin sold, £1 is donated to promote equality and acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community in areas such as education, workplaces and healthcare. So far, Stonewall Spirits has raised over £6,000 ($7,458.99) for various LGBTQ+ charities.

Still Austin

Based in Austin, Texas, Still Austin is a “grain-to-glass” distillery that primarily produces whiskey — and one super cool rye-based gin, deemed The Naturalist. Both Chris Seals, co-founder and CEO, and the distillery’s Master Blender, Nancy Fraley, are members of the LGBTQ+ community.

“The single biggest reason I got into the whiskey business was to build a closer relationship with my dad,” Seals shared, per Whiskey Raiders. “After I came out, he had a difficult time accepting that he has a gay son. Starting Still Austin Whiskey together has brought us closer than ever before. It’s been great to feel the pride my dad feels in what we are building together – and in his gay son. For anyone thinking of getting into the spirits industry, my advice is simple: Be thankful and proud of who you are. Let it shine. I’m so fortunate and happy to add to the vibrance and diversity of a wonderful whiskey community.”

The Naturalist is a modern gin crafted from a Brasetto rye and white corn base, which is produced entirely from scratch. The gin features tasting notes from three types of citrus, orris root, two types of cinnamon, allspice and elderflower. Priced at around $35 per 750ml bottle, The Naturalist rests at an ABV of 45%.

Republic Restoratives

Owned and operated by women and LGBTQ+ members, Republic Restoratives is a distillery based in Washington, D.C.

Republic Restoratives produces two gins, Assembly and Dissent. Inspired by the founding team’s Italian heritage, Assembly Gin features savory tasting notes from carefully sourced tomato leaves, Red juniper, dried tomato, fresh basil, bay leaves, fennel, olive leaves, mandarin and lemon zest. Meanwhile, Dissent Gin includes pepper, allspice, ginger and hickory smoke to create a pastrami-spiced profile that pays homage to New York City’s famous Jewish deli, Russ & Daughters.

The brand also produces Civic Pride Vodka, apple brandy, bourbon, rye and whiskey. The distillery uses locally sourced ingredients and employs a hands-on approach, from milling the grain to bottling the final product to ensure that every batch of spirits is distinct and one-of-a-kind.

“We are Republic Restoratives Distillery,” the business said. “We celebrate an outspoken and disruptive attitude towards the production of quality American spirits. In life and business, we are inclusive but opinionated. We are founded by friends, women owned and led, funded by the community and unafraid of challenging convention. Working with us means betting on the underdog. We aren’t defined by being women-owned or crowdfunded but it’s the heart and hustle of our company.”

This month, Republic Restoratives is donating the proceeds from its parties and the sales of Civic Pride Vodka to the National Center for Transgender Equality, an organization dedicated to advocating for social justice by striving to eliminate discrimination and violence against transgender individuals.

Suncliffe Gin

Suncliffe Gin was launched in Arizona in 2021 by couple Thomas Giddings and Ryan Lawrence, along with their friend Clare Byrne.

“The way our queerness has manifested itself in Arizona is through close relationships with queer-owned bars and bartenders—and I feel like that’s just how it naturally exists,” said Giddings in an interview with Spruce Eats. “Being able to support people and have them support us.”

The brand’s original spirit, Suncliffe Gin, highlights a terroir-driven profile supported by three breeds of native juniper — one-seed, shaggy and alligator — and wild-foraged manzanita, ponderosa pine bark and western elderflower. Priced at about $40, the gin is non-chill filtered to preserve the freshness of its botanicals and rests at an ABV of 45%.

Suncliffe’s online store generously donates 100% of its proceeds to DigDeep’s Navajo Water Project. This initiative, Indigenous-led and locally staffed, aims to provide water access to families in need in the Navajo Nation.

Queer Gin

Queer Spirits is a U.K.-based brand owned by Oli Powell and Jon Gronow, a married couple who launched the business in December 2022.

Queer Spirits’ flagship tipple, Queer Gin, highlights yuzu and blood orange in a “botanical extravaganza” that is suggested to be mixed up in a gin and tonic — or any other “fabulous concoction” you can dream of. Resting at an ABV of 40%, Queer Gin is available for £36.00 ($44.77) per 70cl bottle.

“QUEER Gin is a love letter to our community with a commitment to giving back,” the brand shared. “What started as a ‘we need more queer stuff in our lives’ conversation, has led us here—dreaming of one day walking into Selfridges and seeing QUEER Gin on the shelves.”

“But here’s the T—we’re a little startup that’s unlikely to make a real impact, but we truly believe that the more authentic queer brands are out there, the more colourful and happy our world will be.”

For every product Queer Spirits sells, £1 is donated to the Kaleidoscope Trust, a U.K.-based charity dedicated to advocating for the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals globally.
