Hennessy, the biggest and boldest name in the French Cognac market, is commemorating the 300th anniversary of its founder with an uber-indulgent release destined for the collector’s cabinet.

On Thursday, the brand unveiled Richard Hennessy Magnum, a mysterious bottling with a laundry list of luxury embellishes. Housed inside a Baccarat crystal decanter and suspended on a graphic metal frame, the release incorporates a decidedly contemporary design philosophy alongside subtle nods to the cognac maker’s roots. Etched on the back of the bottle, you’ll find looping French calligraphy alongside an engraved portrait of Richard Hennessy.

Details are scarce surrounding the cognac’s blending process and age statement, though we do know it’s bottled at 80 proof. On the palate, expect flavors of soft spice, nutmeg, leather and hints of fennel.

Expectedly, the 300th-anniversary bottling carries a hefty price tag; decanters are now available upon request at €20,000 ($21,600). If that sounds like a lot, consider comparing it to the brand’s wallet-destroying Hennessy-8 NFT priced at $226,500.

Despite its French reputation, the brand’s founder originally hailed from County Cork, Ireland.

The eponymous Richard Hennessy was born in 1724 in the northeastern town of Killavulen. At the age of nineteen, he left his home country to serve in the French army under King Louis XV of France, eventually working his way up to the position of an officer. Later in life, he settled in the Charente region of France alongside his wife and son, where he created his now world-famous Cognac in 1765.
