Hennessy announced on Thursday that the cognac brand was joining forces with LeBron James to unveil a rare V.S. bottle that would be available across the globe on September 30. This is the first time the two “giants in their respective fields” worked together on a project, according to a news release.
It appears that James held a soft spot in his heart for Hennessy for a long time.
“I was fortunate enough to visit the Maison in Cognac a while back, and seeing the care and craftsmanship that go into creating each bottle was pretty incredible,” James expressed. “This collaboration represents a shared sense of dedication and discovery coming to life for everyone to enjoy.”
The bespoke label features pictures of James in purple and orange, and a tribute sleeve is featured on the bottle with James’ signature crown. Esquire reports that the box costs $39.99.
“We are elated to officially welcome LeBron James to the Hennessy family after many years of mutual admiration and friendship,” said Senior Vice President of Hennessy U.S. Antoine Varlet in a statement. “LeBron is not just a basketball star, but someone who redefines boundaries in sport, style, culture and beyond. This partnership is more than just a collaboration, it’s a statement about what’s possible when two cultural icons come together.”
To celebrate the release, James added his own flair to the Hennessy Margarita cocktail. The cocktail typically features Hennessy V.S, lime juice, orange liqueur and agave syrup. James added orange juice to the mix.
LeBron James is no stranger to the spirits scene. James is the principal investor in the Lobos 1707 Tequila brand, which launched in 2020. James is also an avid wine lover and in May was spotted indulging in a bottle of Opus One courtside. Cognac seems like a logical next step for the NBA superstar.
