The Takeout reported on Wednesday that Costco dropped a new premium cognac that costs around $47 for a 1.75-liter handle. Though exact pricing depends on location, cognac lovers were pleased to see it retails for around $20 cheaper than Hennessy, according to the Daily Meal.
A Costco shopper took to Reddit to report the boozy discovery and claimed that the cognac was a “steal.”

Another shopper who checked out the back label revealed the cognac is made by a French producer called Peyrat. Peyrat was founded in a small village named Le Peyrat, and its name is an homage to the surrounding land. The brand has roots that date back to the early 18th century, but the distillery launched in 1920.
Other Redditors chimed in, commenting that the quality was probably “better” than Hennessy.
“Pretty much any VS Cognac is better than Hennessy,” a Redditor named dirty_corks expressed. “That stuff is bottom of the barrel Cognac, they have to make so much of it (thanks LVMH marketing department!) they can’t be selective about the eau de vie going in.”
The same user went on to refer to Hennessy as the “José Cuervo of Cognac,” explaining that Costco’s selection was probably a significantly better value.
The Hidden Gems of Costco’s Whiskey Selection
It’s been a bang-up year for Costco as far as liquor is concerned, particularly whiskey. In March, shoppers spotted gems like Blanton’s Bourbon up for sale at under $60.
Brands like the popular Japanese whisky Nikka were additionally found in May.
A particularly notable find made waves on the internet in November: Jack Daniel’s Coy Hill, which was spotted in La Mesa, California. A bottle can be potentially worth over $4,000, according to Wine-Searcher.
Forget the free samples: The Costco spirits buyers have been bringing their A-game this year, making this wholesaler an exceptional place to find great value whiskeys.
