On Wednesday, American Hall of Fame wrestler Hulk Hogan announced that he is launching a beer brand named “Real American Beer.” The light lager clocks in at 4.2% ABV, and the brand claims it has a “well-balanced taste.”
“Real American Beer is bringing America together, one beer at a time,” Hogan said in a news release. “We’ve formed an all-star team to make it happen, and I’m excited to introduce Real American Beer to fans and beer lovers everywhere.”
Real American Beer claims that the lager includes exclusively North American ingredients. The brand cites a “rich golden hue” from the malt, and adds that the hops add just a bit of bite, yielding an overall “well-balanced taste.”
The beer will be available at big box retailers like Albertsons, Safeway, Sam’s Club, Total Wine & More and Walmart. On-premise accounts pouring the beer include Hard Rock Hotels and Casinos, various Hooters locations and U.S. Military Bases.
Real American Beer has earned distribution in 17 states and claims its ambitions are heavily set on “reinvigorating the beer industry.”
Though Real American Beer didn’t elaborate much on the current state of the American beer industry, one could surmise it may be aiming to fill a giant, Bud Light-sized hole in the marketplace.
For many years, Bud Light was considered “quintessentially American,” until the beer brand embarked on a controversial campaign with a transgender influencer, Dylan Mulvaney. The beer brand faced plenty of backlash from its customer base, particularly after former Bud Light Marketing VP Alissa Heinerscheid called the base “fratty” and “out of touch,” according to the New York Post.
Bud Light became the boozy epicenter of America’s culture wars with MAGA supporters and the far-right embarking on a successful boycott of the brand. Bud Light was once America’s most popular beer, but it was dethroned to Modelo in June 2023.
In March, Anheuser-Busch claimed the beer giant lost $1.4 billion in 2023 thanks to the Dylan Mulvaney partnership.
Needless to say, the launch of a beer from Hulk Hogan — or Hulk Hogan’s people — is indeed a very savvy play in terms of grabbing market share as the American beer industry struggles with an identity crisis.
Though Hogan’s political leanings remain a mystery, the wrestler voiced support for Trump during the 2016 election. In 2015, Hogan expressed his admiration for the former President and convicted felon.
“I don’t want to be in the ring with any candidates, I want to be Trump’s running mate,” he declared to CBS News in September 2015.
