Scottish craft beer giant BrewDog has announced the closure of its distillery in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, spelling the demise of at least six spirits brands.

On Tuesday, the company announced that it will cease production of Lonewolf Gin, Abraskt Vodka, Duo Rum, Ron Bodega Rum and Casa Rayos Tequila, the last of which is produced not in Scotland, but by the Orendain family in Jalisco, Mexico. BrewDog has not confirmed how many jobs will be impacted by the closure, though it says that it will continue to sell its line of ready-to-drink Wonderland cocktails, which are produced by a third party.

In an internal memo seen by The Scottish Sun, the company reportedly said that it will work through a “responsible wind-down” in the coming months, “including managing existing stock and commitments.”

“After careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to cease production of our distilling brands, with the exception of Wonderland cocktails, which will continue […]   This isn’t a decision we’ve taken lightly.”

“We’re incredibly proud of what the distillery team has built and the brands we’ve created – however, the spirits market remains highly competitive and we need to simplify the business and focus our energy where we can truly win […] That means doubling down on our beer range and Wonderland cocktails, where we see significant growth potential.”

In June 2025, it was reported that BrewDog employed around 2,400 people worldwide. In addition to its alcohol operations, the company runs 90 brick-and-mortar bars and three “DogHouse” hotel locations in the United States, England and Scotland.

BrewDog opened its distilling arm in 2016, raising more than £26 million (roughly USD $35 million) over the course of four rounds through its Equity for Punks crowdfunding drive. The company has yet to disclose what will become of the distillery itself.
