Violet Daiquiri

The violet is a very lucky flower for the Virgo. It symbolizes innocence, faithfulness, spiritual wisdom and remembrance. Crème de Violette is a special addition to this daiquiri, giving it a bewitching pale purplish gray hue. Virgos should definitely try this elegantly beautiful take on the classic daiquiri.  

Ingredients  

  • 2 ounces light rum  
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice 
  • ¾ ounce Crème de Violette 
  • ½ ounce simple syrup
  • Garnish: lime wheel or cherry spear

Recipe

Add the rum, lime juice and and Crème de Violette into a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously until the drink is chilled. Strain into a coupe glass and garnish with a twisted lime wheel or a cherry speared with wooden pick to place delicately on top of the glass.

The Suburban Virgo

The Virgo is often associated with the Greek goddess of wheat and agriculture, Demeter. Wheat is the perfect symbol for Virgo as it represents the harvest at summer’s end which is when Virgos are born. This cocktail is a clever wheaty twist on a classic Surburban cocktail, which is usually made with rye whiskey, dark rum and port. 

Ingredients

  • 1 ½  ounces wheated bourbon (go here for more information on wheated bourbons)
  • ¾  ounce of aged rum 
  • ¾ ounce of tawny port
  • 1 dash of orange bitters
  • 1 dash of Angostura Aromatic Bitters
  • Garnish: orange peel

Recipe

Add all of the ingredients into a large mixing glass with ice. Gently stir with a bar spoon until the drink is chilled. Pour into a old fashioned glass. Garnish with a twisted orange peel.

Blackberry Mojito

Mojito’s are a classic refreshing cocktail, great for a practical Virgo.  A regular mojito is a simple cocktail made with sugar, lime, mint, rum and soda water. The mint in this drink helps to clear the mind of an overthinking Virgo by invigorating the senses. This version contains incorporates blackberries as a star ingredient that pairs well with the mint.  Blackberries mark the end of summer and the transition into fall just as the Virgo sign does. 

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ ounces rum
  • ≈ 10 fresh mint leaves
  • 3 Blackberries
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar, or to taste
  • ½ medium lime, cut into 3 wedges
  • 3-4 ounces club soda, or as needed
  • Garnish: spear of blackberries

Recipe

Add the mint and 1 wedge of lime into a highball glass and muddle together to release the oils of the mint. Next, add the sugar and remaining lime wedges and blackberries. Continue to muddle until sugar is dissolved into the lime juice. Add ice and rum and top the glass off with club soda. Garnish with a spear of blackberries.
