Recently, the University of Tulsa and local alcohol producers, Red Fork Distillery have teamed up to create Red Flag Rum. Red Fork Distillery located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, is showing its state pride with its latest collaboration with the University of Tulsa.
The brand distills a variety of spirits but is most well-known for its handcrafted whiskies and vodkas. The distillery was started by Michael and Dana Hoey in 2015 after the couple decided to make their own spirits. Red Fork had an unconventional start for a distillery as the couple’s backgrounds are in construction and promotional services.
Red Flag may be the first rum produced by the brand. The rum is aged a minimum of six months in new American charred oak barrels.
“The importance of this rum and label being made by Tulsans in Tulsa for The University of Tulsa cannot be understated,” said Jason Malay to Tulsa People, TU’s senior associate athletic director of external affairs. “We are proud of Red Flag Rum and hope Golden Hurricane fans enjoy this great product responsibly!”
The University of Tulsa commissioned local artist Josh Stout to make the label’s painting to reflect the spirit of the University of Tulsa with Red Flag Rum which is representative of the university’s football team the Golden Hurricane.
Stout’s artwork depicts two hurricane warning flags flying in the wind. “It was all about the hurricane,” Stout says. “The magnificent wind and torrential rain for this custom label, plus a small hidden tribute to Route 66 in the base of the flagpole.”
The University of Tulsa Red Flag Rum can be found in liquor stores across Tulsa.
