During an appearance Monday on “The Dan Patrick Show,” former NFL cornerback Ty Law shared that he and his teammates on the New England Patriots used to drink whiskey from a flask during practices.

Patrick asked Law if he ever drank during or before a game, and Law said he had not, but admitted the team used to drink during practice.

“We did it in practice,” Law said. “Mike Vrabel used to have the flask. So, we would all go to Vrabel and hit the flask, and he had some whiskey or something. … He had everybody else getting the flask.”

Vrabel was a linebacker on the Patriots and recently served as the head coach of the Tennessee Titans.

Whiskey during practice may seem like a questionable choice, but Law won three Super Bowls with the Patriots. Perhaps whiskey was the secret sauce of the Pats dynasty. In 2022, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski recalled that in 2010, one of the team’s wide receivers, Wes Welker, offered them Jack Daniel’s to keep them warm before a snowy game in Chicago.

“And we used to have to drive to practice, too,” Law said. “We had to get in our car, with our shoulder pads on, like we were [in] Little League, and everybody was driving over there with helmets and shoulder pads on, just being silly, and hell yeah we was taking drinks in the car. … It was going down on that little five-minute drive — especially when it was cold outside.”

Law played for the Patriots from 1995 to 2004.
