Trump Urges Supporters to Give Bud Light ‘A Second Chance,’ Triggering AB InBev Stock Surge

On Tuesday, Donald Trump implored supporters on Truth Social to reconsider the long-standing boycott against Bud Light and its owner Anheuser-Busch InBev (AB InBev), insisting that the Belgium-based beverage giant “is not a Woke company.”

Trump’s comments follow a highly-publicized about-face from the brand after it stirred up political controversy for a one-off partnership with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney in April 2023.

“The Bud Light ad was a mistake of epic proportions, and for that a very big price was paid,” wrote Trump in a Truth Social Post. “But Anheuser-Busch is not a Woke company, but I can give you plenty that are, am building a list, and might just release it for the World to see.”

“They’ve raised over $30,000,000 and given 44,000 Scholarships. Anheuser-Busch is a Great American Brand that perhaps deserves a Second Chance? What do you think? Perhaps, instead, we should be going after those companies that are looking to DESTROY AMERICA!”

Following the former president’s remarks, stock in AB InBev jumped from around $62 to upwards of $65 by the next day, still holding strong by Thursday with gradual gains. According to Federal Election Commission filings, Trump owns between $1 million-$5 million in AB InBev stock and is currently slated to hold a fundraiser with a prominent lobbyist for the company in March.

Nearly a year after the Dylan Mulvaney controversy turned Bud Light into a national news story, the company has made a concerted push to readjust its public image.

A recently unveiled Super Bowl ad features Post Malone, Peyton Manning and UFC CEO Dana White partying alongside the “Bud Light Genie.” A few days earlier, the brand unveiled Shane Gillis — a controversial comedian once fired from SNL for using racial and homophobic slurs — as its latest brand ambassador.

AB InBev is currently valued as the third-largest beverage company in the world, heading up a vast array of beer brands including Corona, Budweiser, Stella Artois, Modelo, Michelob Ultra and more. With enough time and patience, executives are evidently betting big on a Bud Light comeback.
