Rum on the Rocks: The Rolling Stones Enter Into Celebrity Alcohol Market With Rum Named After Lyric From Hit Song

The legendary rock band, The Rolling Stones have just announced their very own rum dubbed Crossfire Hurricane. The name alludes to the beginning lyric from one of the band’s most popular hit songs “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” Crossfire Hurricane Rum is the very first product owned by the Stones and marks the band’s entry into the celebrity alcohol scene. The spirits brand is made in partnership with Universal Music Group and Socio Ventures.
“The Rolling Stones continue to have an incredible impact on popular culture with the ability to reach fans across multiple generations around the world. We are excited and proud to announce this new venture with them that will further expand and build upon their iconic brand,” said Boyd Muir, Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and President of Operations, Universal Music Group.
As avid fans of the spirit, The Stone’s appreciation for rum began in the ’70s while recording their album “Goats Head Soup” in Kingston, Jamaica. The island is known for producing some of the best rum in the world with brands like Appleton, Worthy Park, Long Pond, Hampden, and Money Musk being consistent favorites in the rum-loving community. Over the decades, the Caribbean became a place where the band members Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were often found when the band when not touring.

Crossfire Hurricane is a blended rum containing rums aged in charred oak barrels for up to five years. The bottle indicates the rums are sourced from Jamaica, Barbados and the Dominican Republic. This release is bottled at 40% ABV and the brand describes the rum as having flavors of caramelized bananas followed by a hint of tropical fruit.

Rock music and rum appear to be a match made in heaven because the “Paint it, Black” singers are joining the growing list of Rock N’ Roll Hall of Famers who own rum brands. Among the great rum-owning rock legends is Van Halen frontman, Sammy Hagar with partner Rick Springfield, KISS and Motörhead.
