9 Football Player-Owned Alcohol Brands to Serve at Your Super Bowl Sunday Party

On Feb. 9, Super Bowl LIX will light up screens around the country, and if you’re lucky enough to be in New Orleans — arguably the greatest cocktail city in the world – you can watch it in person at Caesars Superdome. As of now, four teams are still vying for the coveted Lombardi Trophy: The Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles.

Though we don’t know who will be playing at the Superdome yet, we do know which artist is set to be playing at the Super Bowl halftime show. Hip-hop fans will be delighted to know that Kendrick Lamar is set to return to the stage. Lamar’s last halftime performance came alongside artists like Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent.

If you plan on tuning in to watch Super Bowl LIX — or throwing a viewing party — these football player-owned spirits brands make the perfect pairing for game day.

Travis Kelce’s Casa Azul Tequila

Travis Kelce’s name is on everybody’s lips for multiple reasons. He’s everybody’s favorite tight end and the boyfriend of musical icon, Taylor Swift. Yet, Kelce has been making waves within the booze world for a different reason: Casa Azul Tequila. The line of canned tequila sodas launched in 2022, and it has been so successful, that additional athletic investors have partnered with the brand including New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski.

One year later, Casa Azul unveiled a line of three bottled organic tequilas: a blanco, reposado and añejo made from exclusively Blue Weber agaves grown within Tequila Valley and the lowlands by third-generation agave farmers and distillers, The Montes family. The blanco retails for a suggested retail price of $59.99, the reposado has a suggested retail price of $69.99, and the añejo sells for an average price of $99.99, according to the brand.

Peyton Manning’s Sweetens Cove Bourbon

There’s some serious talent behind Peyton Manning’s Sweetens Cove Bourbon brand — on and off the field. The bourbon brand is blended by Marianne Eaves, Kentucky’s first female Master Distiller. Sweetens Cove hosts a higher price point but has been reviewed quite highly. The brand has relied on grassroots marketing, with Manning stopping by liquor stores and signing bottles.

Sweetens Cove launched in 2019, when Manning joined forces with retired tennis player Andy Roddick and Mark Rivers, a real estate developer. In October 2022, the bourbon brand secured a financing deal with Blue Run Spirits, a whiskey brand known for its signature butterfly-clad bottles in the throes of a meteoric – albeit at times polarizing — rise.

Out of the many critically acclaimed Sweetens Cove releases, we’d suggest giving the brand’s Tennessee Bourbon a try. The 2021 vintage has achieved a Raided Score® of 92. Eric LeGrand’s Eric LeGrand Whiskey

Super Bowl

Eric LeGrand’s story is all about resilience. LeGrand played for Rutgers Scarlet Knights and his jersey number, 52, is the only retired number in the history of Rutgers football, according to the university. LeGrand suffered a spinal injury in 2010 as a junior, which paralyzed him from the neck down. Yet, LeGrand took what could have been a life-altering tragedy and chose to reinvent himself.

A motivational speaker and bourbon brand founder, LeGrand’s eponymous bourbon brand was brought on by the university to sell at the stadium in July 2023. The entrepreneur launched the brand with Brian Axelrod in March 2023 and is considered to be one of the “greatest ambassadors for Rutgers Athletics,” according to Rutgers Associate Athletic Director Lisa Tirrell.

We were particularly partial to LeGrand’s Single Barrel Bourbon, which is a “rockstar,” much like the man behind the brand. If you want to read our review for the bourbon with a suggested price of $62.99, you can read it here.

Charles Woodson’s Woodson Whiskey

Charles Woodson’s brand, Woodson Whiskey, was crowned the official bourbon of the Las Vegas Raiders in August 2023. This is groundbreaking in the sense that it is the first football player’s spirit brand to become an official sponsor of an NFL Team.

Woodson Whiskey was a passion project from the football player, as Woodson claims he is quite the oenophile. The football player-turned-spirits entrepreneur ensures his whiskey is finished in the same French oak wine barrels used for his proprietary wine label.

Woodson Whiskey’s flagship bourbon has an ABV of 40% and can be purchased for $40.

Eight is available in 6-, 12- and 24-packs. A 12-pack typically retails for $15.99.

The brand launched in partnership with Texas-based Zamora Company USA. Expressions launched in the summer with a blanco, reposado and cristalino tequila priced from $65 to $89.

The tequilas are all additive-free. Volteo aims to “elevate the luxury tequila category,” according to the Zamora Company’s CEO, Matt Appleby.
