The Mirror reported on Friday that Turkish-German airline SunExpress ran out of beer and wine on a four-hour flight after just 25 minutes. According to the airline, British passengers quickly depleted it of all its stores. SunExpress Chief Executive Max Kownatzki told The Mirror that the flight was packed with golfers from the United Kingdom who were going on a holiday abroad.

“We sold out of beer and wine 25 minutes after departure; we haven’t done that in any other market,” Kownatzki claimed.

Kownatzki went on to classify British passengers as “more hedonistic” than others.

The Daily Mail reported on the booze-fueled, record-breaking flight and Britons expressed their approval in the comments section:

“Makes you proud to be British,” one person wrote.

Another feigned shock it didn’t happen sooner, claiming they were “surprised it took them 25 mins.”

Whether there is any evidence of hard data supporting the notion that British travelers are more inclined towards imbibing in the air is unclear, yet multiple stories of Brits boozing it up in the skies have made headlines.

On April 9, The Daily Mirror reported that a Ryanair flight to Spain had to make an emergency landing because two British passengers attempted to open a bottle of Disaronno and drink it mid-flight.  The incident was filmed and the video was uploaded to social media.

“Always the Brits,” an individual commented.

It appears incidents of airline-related hedonism may not just involve passengers. In November, law enforcement officers accused British Airways flight attendants of false claims of a robbery to cover up a night of binge drinking and taking illegal drugs in Brazil. Officers in Rio de Janeiro reported the group allegedly drank and took hard drugs, then went to an abandoned gas station and “continued their drug use.”
