‘Sounds Like a Goddamn Vacation in My Mouth!’ This Unique Canadian Rum Delicacy Has Twitter Abuzz
Our neighbors to the North (at least if you live in the U.S.) are known for a few things: wearing all denim, having a fondness for maple leaves, and being maybe too into hockey. Now @fuckedupfoods has brought this Canadian delicacy to the world’s attention, rum soaked donuts.

Foodievores, who makes these donuts, say they are left to soak in what is described as an amber rum (which suspiciously looks like Plantation Rum in the photo). According to the producer, this rum was chosen for its flavor notes of vanilla, wood and caramel. Then throw in a bit of maple syrup (it is Canada after all), what could go wrong?
The majority of people seem to be into the idea, with the current vote for would try at about 70%. However, not everyone is convinced.
Sounds like a tasty flavor combination, but the soggy mush levels would be catastrophic.

The food producer recommends adding toppings like ice cream and chocolate sauce for a choose-your-own-adventure dessert. I don’t know if this would help those afraid of the texture, but it might take the edge off.

For others, the rum soaked donuts proved something they had suspected for some time about the Twitter community.
I knew it! If you soaked a butthole in rum half the folks on twitter would eat it. The other half wouldn’t need the rum.

People on Reddit are perplexed by the structural integrity of the donuts. How are the donuts not just mush?
Canadians can’t take all the credit for submerging pastries into alcohol, as a few people on Twitter pointed out, rum babas are also a thing.
My thoughts exactly. Not that unusual or fucked up, but I wonder if they’ve used a donut dough or if it’s just baba dough in a donut shape pic.twitter.com/qOt415uGAm

After all, rum makes everything better. If you’re not into rum, they also offer tequila and whisky versions. Would you give any of these a try?
