On Wednesday the Pembrokeshire Herald reported that a 21-year-old man from the area named Bryan John pleaded guilty to stealing a Toyota Aygo after drinking “several beers and a bottle of rum.”

“… he has no idea why he did this,” claimed probation services to the outlet.

John claimed he went to Out nightclub in December, where he drank. It was raining outside that night and when he left the club he found an “unattended and insecure” Toyota Aygo.

He got inside for shelter from the storm.

“He then drove the car from Pembroke Dock to the Silverdale Lodge in Johnston, but he has no idea why he did this.”

Authorities arrived after an employee of the lodge spoke to John and could tell he was intoxicated. Fortunately, nobody was hurt or injured, and John did not crash the vehicle.

When he was tested, they found he was well above the legal limit of 35 mcg and had 52 mcg of alcohol in his system.

John was given 18 months of community service, had his license revoked for a year, and was given 100 hours of unpaid labor. He was also charged for the court fees and received a stern talking-to from the judge when he was sentenced:

“You’re very fortunate that nothing worse happened that night, before you were arrested,” said Judge Mary Smith according to the Pembrokeshire Herald. “This is a wake-up call to stop behaving like a kid.”

John’s attorney, Tom Lloyd, claimed the young man was aware of the gravity of his actions.

“My client had gone out that night, he’d had too much to drink and he did something really silly. I can’t explain why he did it, but he knows that this kind of behavior isn’t going to assist him in the future.”
