‘It’s A Big Damn Lie’: Rudy Giuliani Denies He Has a Drinking Problem

On Wednesday, Rudy Giuliani adamantly pushed back at reporters about whether or not the former Trump lawyer and advisor had a drinking problem, Politico reported.
Though often a fraught subject touched on by numerous outlets and ex-wives, Giuliani’s drinking habits became the subject of media scrutiny once again after the New York Times published an article on the ex-New York Mayor’s apparent fondness for booze.
Multiple outlets, including Forbes, have reported Giuliani’s apparent liquor habit could sink one of Donald Trump’s principal legal defenses against the charges pressed against the former president for attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
When a reporter asked Giuliani about his alleged issues with alcohol and referenced The New York Times article, the politician laughed and said, “Maybe I should sue ’em for that,” before vehemently denying it.
Politico reported that Giuliani issued the following statement during a press conference in New Hampshire:
“I do not have an alcohol problem. I have never had an alcohol problem. [If] I had an alcohol problem, I should be in the Guinness Book of World Records,” the lawyer quipped, before listing his various accomplishments. “Nobody could have achieved that if they did [have a drinking problem]. … I was working 24 hours a day. It’s a big damn lie.”
Giuliani has found himself wading in hot water with mounting legal woes.
Politico reported that the former Trump adviser lost a second attorney in Georgia on Wednesday in a state where he is facing racketeering charges over accusations of attempting to overturn the 2020 election.
What is the Drink of Choice for Rudy Giuliani?
Big lies aside, it appears the narrative has shifted over the past few years as to Rudy’s bevvy of choice.
In June 2022, Vanity Fair reported Giuliani wholeheartedly denied all alcoholism accusations and claimed his favorite drink was… Diet Pepsi.
When faced with claims that he was drunk on election night, Giuliani took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and defended himself.
“I REFUSED all alcohol that evening. My favorite drink… Diet Pepsi.”
It’s quite possible his palate has changed with time, as palates often do.
New York Magazine painted a very different picture in December 2019 during an interview with Giuliani over multiple Bloody Marys at a hotel in Manhattan when he confessed he was a fan of scotch.
“I love scotch. I can’t help it. All of the malts. And part of it is cigars — I love to have them with cigars. I’m a partyer.”
