Independent bottlers out of Starlight Distillery in Borden, Indiana, Rolling Fork are adding Heart of Gold rum to their core lineup. Heart of Gold is Rolling Fork’s first expression crafted especially for cocktails.

Rolling Fork Spirits was founded by Turner Wathen and Jordan Morris in 2017. The bottlers specialize in importing cask-strength, aged rums from around the world and matching them with select used casks from a variety of different spirits for secondary aging.

Heart of Gold is a small-batch blend of four barrels. The blend was crafted to elevate the cocktail experience. Rolling Fork’s goal is to redefine what rum can be and aims to stand apart from the standard tropical cocktail rums.

“It’s been a while since we released a spirit with cocktails in mind,” said Wathen. “For the last few years, we’ve been focused on sourcing, aging and releasing super-premium, aged, cask-strength rums that are primarily crafted for sipping neat or on a rock. The time was right for us to introduce a rum with more universal appeal–a rum that will make a great Rum Sour, Daiquiri or Gold Rush.”

The four-barrel blend is comprised of a 3-4-year-old pot and column-distilled rum from Foursquare Rum Distillery in Barbados, a 1-year and a 3 to 4-year rum from Jamaican pure pot still rums from Worthy Park Estate and finally a 2-year-old rum from Clarendon Distillers in Jamaica. All of the rums have a molasses base and come together in a blend that undergoes secondary aging in bourbon casks ranging from a few months up to two years. After its second maturation, the rum is then bottled at 50.5% ABV.

“We think bartenders and consumers are going to love having a new option for rum-based cocktails,” commented Morris. “Heart of Gold has a great balance of citrus and berry fruits and subtle vanilla with a finish of mild baking spice and tasty brown sugar. This is a well-rounded cocktail rum that can hold its own with mixers and create high-quality cocktails at a reasonable price.”

The Heart of Gold Rum will be available where Rolling Fork is sold with a suggested retail price of $39.99. The brand is currently distributed in 20 markets and online with its very own e-commerce launching soon.
